Cart Curator #67 - Do we need to stop re-making movies?
A case for/against the sudden increase in remakes, a watch that could easily be mistaken for Cartier and another (yes, another) sneaker rec.
Hi CC friends,
Jess is settling into her new flat and life in London but is off on a quick trip to Berlin andddd who knows where next? Can you blame her for making the most of the Euro Summer?
Nic is still in Sydney, and enjoying settling back into routine.
Enjoy,
Popshop
Our favourite pop culture or industry moment of the week.
Jess and I were a “business meeting” - read, yapping to each other on FaceTime for hours - earlier this week, when Jess mentioned that she had just seen the Twisters film in cinemas.
Immediately I (Nic) respond “THEY NEED TO STOP MAKING REMAKES OR SEQUELS OF MOVIES”, a thought fuelled by recent news of The Devil Wears Prada’s comeback and the never-ending cringe hangover of Just Like That. Jess was quick to disagree, especially when it came to Twisters…
I (Jess) am a huge fan of the original Twisters so was quite sceptical headed into the theatres to watch this new take which is directed by Steven Spielberg and stars Daisy Edgar Jones (love) and Glen Powell (meh).
Twisters (2024) is a standalone sequel to the original so if you haven’t seen the original, you definitely don’t have to watch it before you see the new version. BUT I am such a fan of it you should anyway. The thriller follows a group of tornado chasers with multiple easter eggs to the original but no direct links.
SPOILERS: Although this isn’t a love story, something seems to brew between Daisy and Glens’ characters and can I just say that their chemistry GREATLY outweighs Glen and Sydney Sweeney in Anyone But You. I also find Glen Powell tricky to watch on screen but I was fully wrapped in this movie and enjoyed every second of it!
Besides from just being a great watch you just know we love a killer press tour and the highlight has no doubt been Daisy Edgar Jones’. She’s had an obvious style evolution taking her look conservative Chanel-esque style to fashion chameleon with looks ranging from modern boho to sleek minimalism. This transformation is thanks to none other than stylist Dani Michelle who is responsible for looks seen on Rosie Huntington Whitely, Kendall Jenner, Hailey Bieber and Elsa Hosk (just to name a few).

Honorable mention goes to Glen Powell’s dog Brisket for also killing it on the carpet. Glen, this is giving slight try hard vibes but I love dogs and we love the adoption story, so we will allow.
Have you seen Twisters? Any other re-makes you think were justified?

I have been on the hunt for a chunkier red bead necklace for a number of months now and it has actually been quite difficult to find one that isn’t hundreds of dollars and with this style being out of my comfort zone I didn’t want to drop a huge amount of money to give it a try.
This one from Stradivarius is actually supposed to be cherries but looks just like beads and was the perfect price for what I am wanting. I have a few holidays coming up that I can’t wait to wear this with a bikini, maxi dress or even a white tee and short combo for a pop of colour.
My sneaker obsession of late is bordering on extremely unhealthy but everywhere I look there is a new style I fall in love with. The latest style I’ve fallen for is from Veja and isn’t one that I’ve seen around much at all but I feel would be a great alternative to a Converse and leans more into Ked territory (nearly).
The combination of the black canvas with the cream chunky rubber sole doesn’t try to hard and looks even a bit vintage. This low key style would look so perfect with jeans a white tee and a giant black coat or any variation of a throw on outfit.

We’ve mentioned Heaven Mayhem (and some dupes…) on CC many times before, so this Add to Cart should come as no surprise. Accessories brand Heaven Mayhem, founded by LA-based Australian influencer/model Pia Mance have expanded their range into timepieces.
You only need to take one look at these to understand the reference. I’m pleasantly surprised at the price - $434 AUD - given they are genuine leather and quartz operated.
When I turned 30 earlier this year I was on the desperate hunt for a watch for my birthday wishlist, and realised that unless I put Cartier or Rolex on there (I did end up putting Cartier on my wishlist to no avail lol), I couldn’t find a chic, well-priced alternative. Doing God's work sharing this with you all now.
I’ve been searching for a pair of simple, chic black sunglasses for the looooongest time and Jimmy Fairly finally answered my search.
I’d ummed and ahhhed over the classic Rayban Wayfarers but for some reason they looked wrong on my face. When I spotted these in a Jimmy Fairly store in Paris (don’t worry, you can buy these online!!) I had high hopes - and they delivered.
These are going to be pricier than your Le Specs or other mid-range sunglasses brands, but the quality is v v good and I love the side arm detailing - which elevates the simple black frames.

A new bathroom in a new flat obviously means it’s time to try some new products and BYOMA has been on my must try list for a while and what I assumed was a hyped IG brand has seriously shocked me in their packaging and quality of formulas.
I dipped my toe into the range by tring out the BYOMA Sensitive Body Wash which as an Eczema sufferer gets 10/10 from me which then prompted me to try even more of the range which leads me to this product.
I was cautious trying this product as anything exfoliating usually causes a reaction with my skin however this product has been gentle enough to use daily. Including both physical and chemical exfoliants this body polish has minimised the keratosis pilaris in the short time I have used it without leaving my skin feeling dry and stripped.

Glossier Generation G Matte Lipstick in Zip
A timely Beauty Counter recommendation given that last week Glossier launched into Mecca here in Aus. One word: finally.
This lipstick is one of the first products I ever tried from Glossier, and to be honest, is the only one that has consistently hung around in my makeup bag. A perfect orange red (just my kinda thing), the winning factor on this is how buildable it is. You can either go for a sheer wash of colour during the day, or build it up for a more impactful red.
I always forget just how affordable Glossier’s makeup is (this lipstick is $33 for example), which made stocking up on this just a bit sweeter - and easier now thanks to Mecca.
One to Try
Recent openings and discoveries.
If this sign looks familiar its probably because you’ve also seen this sandwich shop all over your TikTok feed like us.
Located in Rockdale Sydney, which is about 11KM/25 min drive from the CBD, near Kogorah/Brighton-Le-Sands if that helps anyone contextualise (it certainly helped me Nic, as I thought Rockdale was going to be 1+ hours away when I originally checked the location).
Expect sandwiches filled with deli meats, bagels and goey cookies, this one might be worth the drive.
Lottery Win
A girl can dream.
Mark my (Jess) words, Mulberry will be the next brand to have a major comeback with the Bayswater bag to lead the charge. What have I based this on? Well Nicole would say this has been inspired by my recent move to the UK however I feel this is Mulberry’s time in the trend cycle and with the resurgence of the Balenciaga City bag and trends such as charming up a Birkin the Bayswater and Mulberry are perfectly poised for a comeback.
I will say I love the look of this bag and the size is extremely practical. Plus the fact it isn’t a style that you’ve seen 1000000+ times. Big points from me.

Billie Eilish x Chicken Shop Date
At CC we are obsessed with Amelia Dimoldenberg and equally obsessed with Billie Eilish, so this pairing was a dream come true.
If you haven’t ever watched Chicken Shop Date, firstly what rock have you been living under, we need you to get with the program/pop culture phenomenen.
In true Chicken Shop Date style, the sexual chemistry is through the roof. We need to be besties with these two ASAP.
IYKYK
Super specific recs and niche hyper-fixations.
Okay I (Jess) am very very late to the party but between my upstairs neighbours doing what sounds like an irish jig, traffic and birds out the window of my flat I needed to up my ear plug game from my cheapo Chemist Warehouse pair.
I snagged the Loop Quiet 2 Earplugs in the recent Prime Day sales and these babies are honestly industrial strength. For those who haven’t had them before you insert the earplug with the plug bit (?) facing down and the loop pointed up before swivelling the O backwards until it sits snug in your ear and forms a sort of vacuum. I know someone at Loop would be horrified of my description.
These earplugs are the most secure I have tried and I love that they are making a previously un-chic product a trendy and considered item.
