Cart Curator #58 - Can Can Cannes!
A work shoe YAFI, a taste of Japan in Sydney and the perfect winter after dinner treat.
Hi CC friends,
Welcome to moving week for Jess!
She’s packed her life into two giant suitcases and is bound for her new life in London. Don’t worry she will be making the most of Euro summer so stay tuned to see where she pops up.
Meanwhile, Nicole is still in Marathon prep and will be back next week to give you an update on how it all went. Thoughts and prayers are welcome.
We also filmed some fun videos with Carted, which we will put below. Watch, like and all the rest!
This was a challenge they set us, and it was SO fun to pick out items for each other.
And then they put Nic under a quick fire test.
Enjoy,
You Asked For It
Our YAFI this week comes from a friend of CC who is chasing some winter-appropriate work shoes that aren’t black. Her dilemma was that when she wears lighter outfits (white, beige and so on) the harsh colour of a black loafer or boot is too stark.
Our first option comes from The Dom, which is like Australia’s answer to The Outnet. These Coco Slingbacks from DOF Studios are the perfect balance of being work appropriate but still fashion-led. The 90s-inspired heel matched with the straight across the toe detailing makes for a simple, but chic, slingback that’s a fresher version of the Chanel’s (although we would be purchasing these if they were within our budget).
We also love these tan booties on The Dom, from DOF Studios again. Some seriously underrated finds on the site.
Up next is another white option, Alias Mae’s Polly Mule. Perfect for those who want a bit of height but don’t want to commit to a full heel, this shoe looks soooo expensive when its actually just over $200, whilst still being 100% leather.
It also comes in a burgundy colour which would be perfect for winter.
Next up is the Uma Mary Jane by Aeyde, a more expensive option, but the Mary Jane is a classic style so would be a worthwhile investment if you think you can get a good cost per wear out of it for work (I mean, we do work 5 days a week…). Keep an eye out for promos on The Iconic for this one.
Next up is a fun option, in these Animal Print Loafers from Zara. These are so fun, and might be more appropriate for a smart casual workplace, but we couldn’t not include them.
Keep those YAFI questions coming!
Popshop
Our favourite pop culture or industry moment of the week.
Cannes is not usually one that sits high on our list of pop-culture calendar moments to watch, but oh-my-gosh the red carpet has been interesting this year with a number of stand out moments that we couldn’t not talk about.
Where else to start but Miss Bella Hadid who is the queen of Cannes and has made her comeback after a year long hiatus. Don’t ask us why she’s there - we have no idea - but we are so glad she turns up because no one does a red carpet quite like her.
The proof is in the pudding. Fashion loves BH.
Obsessed with this duo. We’ve mentioned it before but Peggy Gou is such an underrated style icon.
Obsessed with this off duty look. Need this energy for Europe Summer 2025. We also love the reason she wore this dress.
Read the caption. Educate yourself.
This is pure perfection. No notes, no comments.
This YSL number was to die for.
Ok, let’s give some air time to the rest of the attendees.
Joey King is not someone that we would necessarily look for on the red-carpet, but in the words of one of the commenters on this post - “oh, she ate that”.
And again. Although Jess hates the bob, I (Nic) think its working for her.
Perhaps she is going through a rebrand through fashion, a la Jennifer Lawrence? Whatever she’s doing, it’s working.
If you’re not sure what we are talking about, read this old issue of CC here.
The Angels are back with a vengeance and perennially chic Elsa Hosk pulled out numerous bombshell looks for the carpet including this YSL number.
This Prada look is so much fun on Hunter Schafer and the modern accessories make for the perfect combo steering the look away from full blown milk maid territory.
Okay, we thought we would add this one in because, well, niche. For those who don’t recognise Evely - she rose to fame on MAFs and now she’s walking the red carpet at Cannes. It’s funny how life turns out.
Another angel moment. Candice will never cease to amaze us.
We almost didn’t recognise Bella Thorne and while we don’t love this outfit combo she gets all of the points for looking right at home on the carpet.
Demi, we just have to ask, why did you bring your dog Pilaf with you onto the red carpet? How did he score an invite to Cannes?

Seed has a number of beautiful Winter pieces at the moment, particularly some that would be perfect for the office. This brown pinstripe midi is the perfect layering piece to add to a work wardrobe and could be dressed up or down so easily by adding boots, sneakers, a knit, turtleneck or blazer.
Pinstripe is usually reserved for navy so it’s nice to see a bit of a different take on this whilst still keeping the piece versatile.
Venroy’s latest drop is what Summer dreams are made of and I could have so easily included numerous items in this issue but have narrowed it down to this fun mesh number which I would have killed to have as part of my Euro wardrobe last year.
As we know I’m not usually a colour wearer but this monochromatic paring is so chic and I also feel it would be super functional for wearing to a beach club and then to lunch.

Camilla and Marc Thalassa Sweater
The butter yellow shade was pretty prominent over Spring/Summer, but I anticipate we will still be seeing it into the cooler months, like this sweater from Camilla and Marc.
The boucle fabric looks so comfy, and with a slick bun and a chic denim skirt. I would also pair this with a mini black skirt and polka dot black stocking for an evening outfit - can just imagine it now.
Venroy Printed Ruched Jersey Dress
Jumping to a piece that is on the other end of the weather spectrum with this dress from Venroy’s latest drop. While I have no reason to add this to my wardrobe, I feel like I desperately need this in my life.
I know this is the second Venroy item this week, but they just do resort dressing so well and we’re hoping that for those heading to Europe these recs come at a good time.

Prod of the week.

Zyrtec Antihistamine Hayfever & Allergy Eye Drops
Anyone who knows me well enough knows that any form of eye makeup - whether it be shadow, liner or lashes - doesn’t bode well for my eye health and will always end in red irritated eyes before an event. These Zyrtec eye drops have become a non-negotiable in my makeup bag for preventing irritated eyes and clearing any redness that does occur.
I find these work even better than the standard tear eyedrops that flush out the eyes vs actually do something to minimise irritation and redness.

Sephora Collection Translucent Setting Powder
My skin is soooooo oily, but I prefer cream formulas which leaves me with a little bit of a conundrum for longer lasting make-up. Until I picked this up I was using the By Terry Hydra-Powder which is excellent - don’t get me wrong - but $36 for 4g of product.
I had just run out of the By Terry, so switched to this Sephora translucent powder, which has a more yellow look when compared to the very white - almost talc - look of the By Terry. I only powder my T-Zone and my eyelids (oily girls know…) and find that this has a much smoother and less noticeable finish. I get zero creasing under my eyes, which is very important, and I never have to top up throughout the day.
Sorry to now share that this is currently on waitlist at Sephora, but it is a core product of theirs so I anticipate they will restock.
One to Try
Recent openings and discoveries.
I (Nic) was seriously craving the convenience store Onigiri from Japan, and then scrolled across this cute Japanese hole in the wall just out of Surry Hills. I visited here on the weekend and it was soooo good. Their onigiri range includes Smokey Chicken (my fave), the classic Tuna Mayo, Wagyu Beef and more which you can pair alongside their matcha range and general café offering like cookies, coffee and so on.
At only $6 for the onigiri this is such an affordable lunch option if you work around the area, and the café was bustling which added to the vibe.
Lottery Win
A girl can dream.
With my (Jess) impending move to London my brain has switched into Summer mode and I have been lusting after these Miu Miu slides which are such a different twist on a plain style or something we have seen everywhere like the Chanel dad sandals. The black and white knit give these a bit of a preppy feel which I am very into and the gold Miu Miu detail is understated whilst also giving generational wealth.
Consumables
What we can’t stop binging.
Billie Eilish Hit Me Hard and Soft
This album!!!!!! Billie is one of my (Jess) favourite artists of all times and this is just such a different sound from both her and Finneas. It’s got a very vibey sound to it and is perfect dinner party/car/weekend listening. My picks so far would have to be Lunch (duh), The Greatest and Wildflower which is actually about Billie’s ex Jesse Rutherford and his ex Devon Lee Carson (AKA founder of Wildflower Cases).
IYKYK
Super specific recs and niche hyper-fixations.
Avalanche Hot Chocolate Sachets
Ok, I know we shared a sachet drink a few weeks back but these are the biggest IYKYK for winter.
Somehow these are 99% sugar free (so, like, healthy?) and also taste incredible. If you’re anything like me (Nic) every dinner needs to be followed immediately by a little sweet treat and chocolate is my Achilles heel. These are perfect for those cooler nights, and for filling those cravings.
Also as a positive, you can do either water or milk - I always do water - and it still tastes creamy/frothy.
