Cart Curator #53 - Hot, not Cold, for Katy Perry
An edit of the new way to do a trench coat this season, are we about to witness a Katy Perry comeback? and Toteme on a budget.
Hi CC friends,
Nic is currently deep into her marathon training, with less than 6 weeks to go until the big race - tell me you’re 30 without telling me you’re 30.
Jess on the other hand has been busy moving house and dealing with all of the fun things that come with it!
We hope everyone is getting ready to bake their ANZAC day biscuits.
Enjoy,
You Asked For It
This week we’re discussing a trend set to be huge for A/W24 - the cropped trench. Now this isn’t necessarily a new trend right, we all know that a trench coat forms part of any good capsule wardrobe, however, this item can often be quite intimidating if you live somewhere like Brisbane that doesn’t get particularly cold/wet. Or, if you're like me (Nic) and very short you can often drown in these styles that are typically made oversized.
The cropped trench is the perfect alternative and a good entry point to ease you into the trench category. As a bonus, all of our favourites are at a super reasonable price.
Up first is the Minima Esenciales Bartley Cropped Trench Coat, on The Iconic which is currently 30%, bringing it down to under $200 which is a steal for a classic piece like this.
Our next option is the AERE Organic Cotton Tortoise Button Short Trench Coat, again from The Iconic.
It’s worth noting that this one doesn’t come with a belt, but we do think that this style looks neater styled without one, given where it cuts off on the body.
Our last option is our most affordable, and we bet it won’t be in stock for long. The Glassons Cropped Trench Coat comes in at only $80. We love how this is styled on the model, layered with a classic striped shirt and white tee.

Popshop
Our favourite pop culture or industry moment of the week.
We all know that the fashion and music industry is cyclical, constantly revolving between style icons.
The fashion woman of the moment, about to take the crown from Nicole Kidman, is pop princess Katy Perry.
Now, Katy Perry seemingly got shunned from the fashion scene when she cut her hair short (which, is so wrong on so many levels, but a conversation for another time), so we are so happy to see that she is exploring her more fashion forward self.
She’s never been known for being super fashion-forward, but we all know that sometimes all it takes is a good style to catapult you into fashion icon and into the front rows of fashion shows, which we can see being next for our girl KP.
Recently she has worn some killer looks including her looks for the iHeart Radio and Breakthrough Awards.
OBSESSED with this Coperni look.
Whispers on the internet say this revamp is indicative of new music on the horizon and if every celebrity new project launch strategy is anything to go by - we absolutely agree. To further support this theory Katy announced on Jimmy Kimmel Live in February that this would be her last season as a host of American Idol.
Still not convinced here’s some more evidence:
In a less stylish - but also iconic fashion moment - KP wore a shirt with her husband Orlando as Legolas from Lord of the Rings (last slide).
Was this comeback on your 2024 bingo card? Let us know your thoughts.

Ganni Graphic Rib Sun Tank Top
During my regular trawl through NET-A-PORTER I found this cute tank from Ganni but what really hooked me was the way they styled such a basic piece. Although sold out on Net I’m going to pick up this fun piece from another retailer and try to recreate this look exactly - which actually leads into my next select.
AERE Square Toe Leather Ballet Flats
Okay, as you will see above the Ganni tank has been styled with none other than the Maison Margiela Tabi Ballet Flats and in my quest to replicate this outfit I’ve searched high and low for alternatives to this expenny (but dreamy) shoe.
These AERE square toe ballet flats give a very similar feel with the squared off leather toe with the slight puckered texture. This style has also been consistently on sale and added bonus for a tall/large footed girlie like myself - they go up to a size 11 which is so so rare.
Nicole
A fun, statement tee is a wardrobe essential, but I don’t feel like there are that many great options out there aside from GANNI (who do it the best IMO).
This Cherry Tee from Australian brand Mode Mischief is perfectly cheeky, and could easily be styled with silky trousers for work, jeans on the weekend or even a jort if you’re feeling adventurous.
I’m trying to prioritise shopping locally and second-hand/vintage (Depop is my achille’s heel, so this is very easy), so I love discovering new Australian brands to keep on my radar.
I’m sure by now we are all very familiar with the Toteme scarf coat, and I’ve recently come across a “dupe” that I think is actually better than the original.
At $350 sure it’s not cheap, but in comparison to the Toteme version which comes in at around $1,500, you can’t argue with its affordability for what you get. With a 60% Wool, 40% Tencel fabrication breakdown, it’s giving warmth and durability.
You know those days where it’s so cold you just want to wear your doona out of the house? I feel like this would be the perfect compromise, and you’ll look incredibly put together at the same time.
You can see it in it all its glory here:

Vital Proteins Collagen Peptides
I’m usually not into any kind of supplements but in an effort to consume more protein as someone with a tummy that doesn’t like protein powder I have started taking the Vital Proteins Collagen Peptides which has 9g of protein per serve plus obviously the added benefits of collagen.
The biggest thing for me when taking a supplement is the taste - more specifically that it has none so this product is a dream and I just mix it into my morning coffee.

Espress-oh Sole Mio Cream Blush
This is a new product currently in my make-up rotation, but I’m instantly impressed. This is the first product I’ve tried from Italian brand Espresso-Oh, available at Sephora, and this cream blush leaves a diffused wash of colour to the cheeks in a way that is pretty much foolproof.
It has a similar feel to Glossier’s Cloud Paint, and in terms of application (apply to the back of the hands then use the fingers to smudge), it is almost identical. I’m currently using the shade 6AM but the shade below, 6PM, looks right up my alley.
One to Try
Recent openings and discoveries.
As two girls who have spent many years of our working lives in Surry Hills, we were so pleased to see the revival of this landmark pub.
Despite the high concentration of restaurants, Surry Hills is lacking a good after work drinks spot other than The Dolphin, so this revamp is well welcomed into the area.
I (Nic) walked past this yesterday and it is looking schmick.

A girl can dream.
Jacquemus Le Mariage Collection
Cool girl brides to be were rejoicing this week when Jacquemus announced their Le Mariage Collection.
It’s obviously not the first time a designer brand has branched out into bridal, but Jacquemus’ offering extends to the full crew - think the groom and groomsmen, bridesmaids, mother-of-the bride and so on.
As big Muriel’s Wedding fans, this video announcement was everything.
Consumables
What we can’t stop binging.
How could we not. So as we all know this week Taylor Swift did a sneaky little double album drop with some long awaited new music after what feels like a lifetime of re releasing her music (we still love you Taylor’s Version).
If you haven’t already had a listen (if this is you - how?) the album is a lot darker and moodier as always with some stand out bangers.
I (Jess) am all for the conspiracy theories around who each song is about (Matty Healy we’re looking at you for the most part) and all the fan videos on TikTok drawing comparisons between her previous work, Matty’s songs and this new work.
My favourites already include Florida!!!, Who’s Afraid of Little Old Me?, The Alchemy and Clara Bow.

If Carted sounds familiar it is probably because we recently had their Head of Operations and Growth Gaby Howard join us for our In Collaboration with… issue a few weeks back - you can catch up on that here if you are yet to read.
You all know we love our apps that provide shopping inspiration but one that can keep our wish lists organised and even alert us to a sale - say less. To say we are obsessed with Carted is an understatement, and we were very lucky to be testing this app during the beta release so let us fill you in on how it works, and why if you’re a savvy shopper like us then you need to download it ASAP.
So let’s rewind - what actually is Carted? Carted is an app that creates, organises and price tracks your shopping wishlists, so you can shop smarter.
We’ll categorise why we love this app so much into three sections. 1. Usability, 2. Organisation and 3. Smart Shopping.
Firstly, the app is SO easy to use. You create a list like you would a board on Pinterest, either copying in links directly, or you can actually drop the product straight into the list using the “share” button on your phone’s internet browser. You can save any product from any online store.
That means you can literally drop in anything shoppable, meaning lists can span seasons (Winter, Summer and so on), to beauty, homewares and more. Since we started using it, we’ve been cataloguing EVERYTHING.
And lastly, the app has built in tech that tracks the price of each item, so you are notified if it drops in price, meaning you can shop smarter, because no one wants to pay full price right? This also means you get instantly notified, so you won’t miss out if the item is in high demand.
Ok, before we go we had to mention that Carted are giving away $1000 (!!!!) to one lucky user on their page. Click the post below to enter.
Thank you to Carted for sponsoring this issue of Cart Curator. We aim to bring an authentic approach to our content, and will always disclose paid partnerships. That being said, we would never engage in a sponsorship if we didn’t truly love and believe in the brand, and we are OBSESSED with the tech and the women behind this app.
