Cart Curator #8 - Is An Onion A Handbag Essential?
Honest opinions on the shoe of the moment, our favourite pair of undies, and manifesting a $26K 30th Birthday Present.
Hi CC friends,
Nicole spent her NSW long weekend in the Southern Highlands, which was incredibly relaxing (and cold). She stayed at Hopewood House, and some favourite spots included lunch at Berida Hotel, dinner at Eschalot, and afternoon wines at Bendooley Estate’s Cellar Door. Get the 2019 Chardonnay Reserve.
Jess had a week of travelling, heading down to the InterContinental Sorrento Mornington Peninsula for work which was a v luxe experience and would be even better when it isn’t pouring rain and less than 15 degrees. However with those interiors who can really complain?
The countdown is on for our European escapades with under a month to go now (1.5 weeks for Nic!) so we we will be laying low until we next time we see each other in Puglia (this makes us feel slightly unwell thinking of everything to do before then).
Enjoy,
You Asked for It
We’re just going to come right out with it. Adidas Sambas look like a bowling shoe. There we said it.
Now we aren’t being haters, I (Jess) actually own a pair of white Sambas and in retrospect, now realise that I absolutely purchased these because everyone around me was doing stupid things to get their hands on them and I was also being told left and right they are the shoe of the Summer, Winter etc.
NOTE: I (Jess) purchased mine when they were just on the verge of blowing up - I knew it would be now or never situation which I think has been a big lesson for me around my current shopping habits and how a scarcity mindset vs individual taste plays into a lot of things!
We’ve had a few friends desperately sourcing these or generally chasing a good everyday or travel sneaker and honestly people - you can do better.
First up, is the Onitsuka Tiger Mexico 66. These actually look a lot like the newly released LOEWE sneakers (which I don’t love as much) and seem to be a popular shoe in Europe but we are yet to see a lot of these within Australia which at this stage has major appeal to me - cc the TikTok below. These are also available in a heap of different colours which are so fun.

Another favourite is the Adidas Gazelles, which do look similar to the Sambas with the brand's signature 3-Stripes, but are suede and have a chunkier sole, which in our opinion takes away from the rounded and more narrow toe. I love the colours popping up in this style which definitely adds a bit of individuality to the model.
For something classic, you can’t go past the VEJA V-10 in all-white, which I (Nicole) wear. They also have some fun colour ways if you’re after something a little less classic.
Popshop
Our favourite pop culture or industry moment of the week.
For those who haven’t yet seen, this month’s issue of British Vogue celebrates pride and has national treasure Miriam Margoyles gracing the cover. If that name doesn’t immediately ring a bell, you might be more familiar with the British-Australian’s character Professor Sprout in Harry Potter or various TV shows including Almost Australian and Australia Unmasked.
Quite frankly this whole cover shoot and accompanying interview should be mandatory viewing and can we just say it is so incredibly refreshing to see someone so unapologetically themselves bring so much personality to this issue.
We’re crossing our fingers that with British Vogue’s Edward Enninful moving/pushed into a new role at Conde Nast, the BV team continue to push out such iconic shoots.
The pride portfolio within the issue highlights some of the biggest names in pop culture including Emma DA’rcy, Bella Ramsey and Janelle Monáe who speak to gender, and their true selves on vs off camera.
Snippets of her interview (see below) include the iconic line “I always carry an old bag like this because I am an old bag,” and some essential items she includes including a spare pair of knickers and an onion - naturally.

Source Unknown Puff Hem Taffeta Top, Ivory
This is giving me slight PTSD from wearing peplum tops and chunky necklaces in high school but the peplum is making a comeback and this Puff Hem Taffeta Top from Source Unknown is feminine and steers away from the workwear look we all have known so well. I’ve also had my eye on a similar version in the Sleeveless Jersey Poplin Top from NA-KD which only comes in black (of which I am actively trying to not buy any more of - pray for me).
NA-KD Oval Shape Plastic Sunglasses
I’m at the point in the Euro budgeting where I am looking for items that are low investment and high impact and after seeing Stefi Kirby’s Japan outfits on TikTok featuring the LOEWE Flame sunglasses in acetate I’m convinced I need something similar. I stumbled upon the NA-KD Oval Shape Plastic Sunglasses which are definitely LOEWE inspired and are so fun and out of my comfort zone.

Reformation Foster Knit Two Piece
After I saw my girl crush @tinx wearing this, I knew I needed it in my life. Both of these items would be versatile as as standalone pieces and would easily become heavy rotation basics in your wardrobe regardless of season, which I think is enough justification to purchase.
The time has come for me to retire the old foundation stained Victoria’s Secret free-with-purchase cosmetic bags from an ungodly number of years ago. I feel like purchasing a cosmetic case is very adult of me, and I’ve narrowed down my search to this Cee Clear option for two reasons. I like the idea of being able to see my products, so one, I don’t have to open and close three different bags to find the specific product I’m after and two, I’ve worked with their founder Kat in the industry for many years and she is an angel.

Korres Blue Sage Eau de Toilette
This week I have rediscovered my favourite scent. The Korres Blue Sage is an Eau de Toilette (my version of a grown up Impulse body mist) and is the perfect fresh smelling scent. You will never catch me wearing anything overly sweet or floral and this is no different with notes of lemon, lime, grapefruit, mint, sage, fir balsam, nutmeg, geranium, patchouli, vetiver and dry amber. I love dousing myself in this straight out of the shower or anytime I want to feel fresh.

Klorane Oat Milk Tinted Dry Shampoo
After coming off Accutane, my oil levels reset in my skin and hair, which made me remember how annoying it is to wash your hair every second day or so. Especially when your routine is as extensive as mine. This is the only dry shampoo I use, as it is both designed for darker hair colours so doesn’t leave that grey tinge, and leaves my hair feeling soft, not stiff.
One to Try
Recent openings and discoveries of the food and beverage kind.
We’re a marketers dream, so when this colourful chic gelateria popped up on IG, we knew we had it to add to the list. You can find their “gelato on-a-stick”, flavours of our dreams and ANZAC biscuit ice cream sandwiches in Sydney suburbs Redfern and Glebe.

Cartier 1990s pre-owned Tank Américaine 45mm
With one of us nearing 30 (!!) a classic Cartier watch that stands the test of time (pun intended) is on the list. FarFetch does a great selection of pre-owned watches, like this 45mm Tank Américaine.
IYKYK
Super specific recs and niche hyper-fixations.
We’ve got to give Kim Kardashian this one, Skims is undeniably (and un-dupeable in our opinions) the best everyday underwear and shapewear brand on the market. Our favourite is the Fits Everybody Thong, which comes in a variety of colours, and is a perfectly seamless and comfortable daily thong. These wash and wear incredibly well, which can be difficult to find in a pair of underwear.
We are both currently trialling Australian brand NALA who have a similar style with their Classic Gee. Stay tuned.
The Highlands is my hometown! So nice to read you spent your long weekend down here, Nicole. Sounds like you definitely ate/sipped at the right places (Eschalot is my favourite dinner spot too).
