This week has been another slightly chaotic one with Jess being in Melbourne for work this week - she will undoubtedly have some good recommendations next newsletter.
Nicole spent her weekend with a few Whiskey Apples (on Fireball always) in hand which was necessary after battling the Vivid crowds.
Also, new addiction unlocked in the way of a post-Barry’s workout shake. Simply PB, sub for Choc Protein, and add Maca and the Slim Down (lol) booster. Nothing like an overpriced workout class followed by an overpriced smoothie for top-tier endorphins.

You Asked for It
In this week’s You Asked For It we’re switching it up and talking travel, specifically the must-have apps. Euro Summer is on everyone’s lips and we’ve been asked to share our go-to apps for a seamless experience.
First is Airalo, an eSim provider which essentially lets you buy pre-purchase set GB’s of International eSims, allowing you to easily use the internet in your chosen country. I (Jess) am the biggest stressor in the world and just knowing that I will be able to switch on my eSim and have internet access as soon as I land provides the necessary peace of mind (scenarios running through my mind include airport WIFI not working, and not being able to access money or Uber).
Next, we have AmiGo Travel which is a social media-ish platform for travel. You create a profile and upload city-specific recommendations alongside photos and in reverse can also search a specific location to find other users' recommendations. Super handy when travelling to a new city or just looking for some new places to explore (that don’t come from TikTok and won’t be packed with content farming girlies - no judgement). You can save places to your wishlist as you go, and the app will group these by location.
Last is Citymapper, a non-negotiable for getting around in any city. Simply punch in your destination and it will provide all of the different ways to get there, the cost of each mode and the time each will take. Once you select your mode of transport the app will also guide you as to which stop to take, what train station exit to take (which can be a lifesaver when you’re battling international metros), and turn-by-turn directions to get there. Game changer.

Our favourite pop culture or industry moment of the week.
This week we wanted to discuss a phenomenon we’ve noticed in the cross-over between fashion and the small screen, and how these programs are churning out the next generation of celebrities.
Netflix, HBO, and the growing cohort of streaming platforms have gained credibility as creating high-quality television viewing. Throw COVID in the mix, and “straight to TV” is no longer a dirty phrase.
Off the back of this, we’re seeing the biggest names in Hollywood right now, particularly those being embraced by the Fashion World, having made their name on television. The White Lotus, Euphoria, Succession, and Squid Games immediately come to mind as elevating (or in Jennifer Coolidge’s case, reinvigorating) their cast to a level of star power previously reserved for movie stars.
That’s not to say that TV has never created big names, but it takes a lot for heritage fashion brands to embrace these, and that is what we are seeing here. We’ve dropped some of our favourite campaigns before, including Louis Vuitton, Miu Miu, and Loewe.

I can not tell you how many times I get asked “where are your pants from” when I wear these. This is often followed by a gasp when I say Uniqlo, not Djerf Avenue, and an even bigger gasp when I share they are priced at $59.90.
These straight-leg trousers are incredibly versatile, dressed down casually with white sneakers on the weekend or a kitten heel for work. I’ve included a TikTok styling video because Uniqlo’s website does not do them justice.
Bonus, Uniqlo does in-house alterations, so if you’re a petite girl like me, you can easily have these tailored to your preferred length.

Flamingo Estate Roma Heirloom Tomato Candle
Do I need a candle that smells like tomatoes? No. Do I want one? Yes.
I religiously burn a candle in my apartment (which is great for my anxiety when I also religiously leave the house without remembering if I blew it out or not), and have my eye on this Flamingo Estate offering. Described as “ripe, supple, and bursting with juice, the mighty heirloom tomato conjures memories of summer dinner parties in Sicilian gardens”. Delicious.

Maybelline Lash Sensational Sky High Mascara Cosmic Black
I feel like I had been on the hunt for the perfect mascara forever, having found a few I liked but not loved. That’s until a friend recommended the Maybelline Lash Sensational Sky High Mascara Cosmic Black and it has quickly become my one true love. If you can get this when it is on sale this product is an absolute dream at around $13 (it’s currently on sale at Chemist Warehouse, run, you have nothing to lose) when I had previously been paying $50+ for a product that isn’t as good as this.

If you’re a minimalist you might get a shock if you look at my palette collection. Despite the fact I own an ungodly amount of Charlotte Tilbury quads and Instant Eye palettes, this matte 12-pan palette from Makeup by Mario gets the biggest workout. All shades are highly pigmented, buttery nudes that are incredibly versatile for both a casual wash of colour in the day, and a layered smokier night look. Recent openings and discoveries of the food and beverage kind.
One of Sydney’s leading hair salons, Koda Cutters, has made a very welcome expansion opening a second set of doors in the city’s Queen Victoria Building. Sneak peeks across social show that the QVB salon is bold and luxurious with marbled surfaces and pops of red. With services including a hair facial (yes please) and their menu of “K-Blow Wave, relaxed, undone cuts” with “an uncompromisable passion for colour”, we’re ready to book an appointment ASAP.

Super specific recs and niche hyper-fixations.
For anyone that has a dog or a cat, I can’t emphasise this enough - you need this now. When I say this makes my dog Maisy smell like a summer's dream (more specifically Ouai’s Mercer St scent) you actually do not understand. Powered by notes of Orange, Peony, Jasmine and Musk this product's scent staying power is unmatched. I have never seen an animal receive so many compliments for both smelling incredible and having unbelievably soft fur.
